We know things have certainly changed and all of a sudden parents are trying to figure out how to keep their children engaged and still learning during this difficult time. We know you’re trying and we’re here to support you. Here is a list of free literacy resources. Simply click on the picture of the associated resource and you will be taken to that resource’s website. We will continue to update this page as more resources become available.

Tennessee Reads via Overdrive is a fantastic resource for free eBooks for children and young adults. There are hundreds of titles to choose from. All you need is a library card from the Rutherford County Library System. Even if you don’t have one, there is an option to sign up for a library card and begin using this site immediately. You can read these books on your phone, download them to kindle or download an epub file. Books can be checked out for 7-21 days. Audiobooks are also available to rent.

 

 

 

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library gives away free books every month from birth to the age of 5. On this site, you can find tips for creating good reading habits, watch read-a-louds, and find additional resources that encourage literacy for your little ones. 

 

 

 

 

 

Ready Rosie is for families with children from birth to age 3. It provides resources to help children develop literacy skills through reading and learning together. Once you sign up, you will receive weekly videos with learning activities.

This website has an option for Spanish.

 

 

The Tennessee Department of Education has started a YouTube channel. These 30-minute videos feature teachers from across the state and teaching lessons for grades 4th-6th on subjects such as Math and ELA.
