Conversation Hour
We proudly offer an online Conversation Hour for any adult learning English and wishing to increase their English speaking skills. This is not a class, instead, it is an informal conversation led by a member of our Adult Literacy Department.
Conversation Hour is every Wednesday at 6:30 pm-7:30 pm.
If you would like to join in, please email Tina at programassistant@readtosucceed.org. She will provide you with a link to connect. This is an opportunity to practice English for free; Anyone is welcome to join! Online Conversation Hour will meet weekly on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm. You will need to have a new link emailed to you each week in order to join the conversation.
Word of the Week
In addition to weekly lessons, we also have started a new weekly series called, “Word of the Week”. In this series, our Program Assistant, Rianne, introduces a new word that is a form of slang or a colloquial saying.
Needle In a Haystack
Definition: Something that is very difficult or impossible to find.
Example: Finding stiletto heels to match the color of Jill’s bridesmaid dress was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
By The Skin Of Your Teeth
Definition: Phrase used to describe something that almost did not occur.
Example: While in Zambia, Braydon narrowly escaped from the bite of a honey badger by the skin of his teeth.
Take It With a Grain of Salt
Definition: To take something lightly; not too seriously.
Spill The Beans
Definition: To reveal secret information.
In a Pickle
Definition: A common phrase people use when they are in a precarious situation; being in a tough spot.
Not My Cup Of Tea
Definition: Something that is not to one’s liking
Par For The Course
Definition: What one would expect to happen; something normal or common.
Elephant In The Room
Definition: Ignoring a large, obvious problem or failing to address an issue that stands out in a major way.
