Read To Succeed Adult Literacy Program was begun in January 2005, and the following mission statement was adopted:

Adult Literacy Program Mission
The Read To Succeed Adult Literacy Program will address the basic literacy needs of adults in Rutherford County who want to develop their skills for personal and/or career development.

The Adult Literacy Program works with adults 18 years-of-age and older to provide free one-on-one tutoring in basic literacy. The program provides a free 15-hour training course to teach volunteer tutors how to work with adults who have below 5th grade level reading skills. The tutors are then paired one-on-one with adult learners. Throughout the year, inservice training is offered to the tutors at no cost. In addition, the program provides the basic literacy materials needed for the tutoring process.
