Free Adult Literacy Resources

One-on-One Adult Literacy Tutoring

The adult literacy program works with adults 18 years of age and older to provide one-on-one tutoring in basic literacy at no cost to the learner. The program offers a free five-hour training course to teach volunteer tutors how to work with adults. The tutors are then paired one-on-one with adult learners based on the tutor’s interest (basic, intermediate, or advanced reading, math, or English Language Learner). As a Read To Succeed adult literacy tutor, you will meet with your designated learner once or twice a week for an hour or two. Once enrolled, tutors will be required to submit a monthly report. Throughout the year, in-service training is offered to the tutors at no cost. Also, the program provides the basic literacy materials needed for the tutoring process.

ESL/ELL Instruction – fall classes are full

Read To Succeed hosts ESL/ELL classes throughout the county for adults seeking to improve their reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities. These classes are open to new students in September. Virtual and in-person options are available. Interested students should call (615) 738-7323, email alcoordinator@readtosucceed.org.

English Conversation Hour for Adult Literacy Learners

Our Conversation Hour is designed for adults looking for additional practice in speaking English. This is not a class, and there is no official teacher. This is an opportunity to speak with other English-language learners in an informal setting. Conversation Hour sessions are currently held every Wednesday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. via Zoom. Email programassistant@readtosucceed.org if you would like to join!
